Yesterday I took the island car over to the mainland on the barge - at the crack of dawn I might add. I am not a morning person, so it will shock those who know me when they read that these photos were taken while on the 06.40 barge. I kid you not. And no I did not sleep in the car at the boat ramp all night.

Not much quilting done as a result, and not one quilt shop visited, but I did take my hexagons and did some sewing on them while I was on the barge and waiting around for the car to be fixed up. It's true - I am addicted.

On a negative note though, this handwork has really made me realise that the eyes aren't as good as they used to be. It is my right eye I think, but in normal fashion I will wait 6 months or so to get them tested in case the eye gets fed up waiting, and fixes itself! Generally I have excellent vision - can read the phone book and things way off in the distance. But, I'm 42 now .... sigh.

Apart from this I have pulled a muscle in my back carrying the large bags of dog food up the stairs. When you take the car over, it is important to fill it up with big things that are difficult to get home. So I bought this stash of dog food (this is not an advertisement - there is a different brand on the bag at the back). Carrying 20kg bags of dogfood out of the car and up about 10 steps into the house is not easy though. But I do have a grateful recipient, who poses here with the haul. And yes, I did have a biscuit out of the box in my hand to get him to sit like this! I will have to be very careful to close the pantry door when I go to work tonight...

  1. Being a morning person I know that mornings are the most beautiful time of day. I see by your photos that you were awake enough to appreciate it. And your dog looks like he appreciates the dog food too.

  2. I'm sure Simon lets you know that the effort is worth it.And keep upi the work on the hexagons - it is amazing how they mount up when you do a little bit at a time.

  3. What beautiful pictures. And I understand about buying in bulk, even though it is painful to carry it in. With my luck, generally whenever I buy anything in bulk, that's about the time my daughter decides she doesn't like it anymore.

  4. I knew those hexagons would get to you *s* Do you have 'reading' glasses available. I buy magnifying glasses at the store to help with close work and reading. They come in different powers. Perhaps they would get you over the 6 months hump.

  5. Hi Jenni,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm not sure what a canetoad is, but we do have an occasional rattlesnake around here, so we're careful.
I enjoyed reading your blog, love the Japanese quilt.

  6. I hate to tell you, but at 42 your eyes are most unlikely to get better - only worse. Welcome to the joy of middle aged eyes! That is about the age I got my first pair of bifocals - or maybe even earlier. I thought I needed stronger distance correction - turns out I was suffering eye strain from trying to see well close up. Magnifying glasses might help - but if you can I think you are better off seeing the eye doctor now.

  7. ha ha -- I have readihg glasses in every room of the house, and I still can't find a pair when I want them! I think 42 was the magic age for me, too.

  8. I've been wearing glasses since 5th grade and if I put my glasses down somewhere odd - I can't find them! I often wear contacts, but love, love, love the new featherlight glasses as they aren't heavy at all and stay on. Once you get glasses, you might wonder how you managed without them as everything is so much clearer - so you might want to go now and also get your eyes examed for general health at the same time.

On ferries - I often take ferries and find it most stressful to have to be there at a certain time - because you just know if you are 5 minutes late you have to wait hours and hours for another!

    Cheers!

  9. Lovely morning photos and also loved the fabric you've just received. Your hexagons are going to make a very pretty quilt.
