Sewing Machines

Susan asked about our sewing machines. I have a very basic Janome machine that sews ok. However, my next machine is going to be a bit flasher than this one.
It reminds me of when I had my last car. I was determined that my next car would have 2 features that the old car did not have. Airconditioning and an intermittent windscreen wiper. My current car has them.

My next sewing machine is going to have a needle up/ needle down option, and a machine blanket stitch. Not too much to ask for I don't think?

My Mother has a Bernina which she likes, however everything related to it is very expensive. Plus it was sick and was away for ages waiting for a part to come from overseas somewhere. I am happy with the Janome - never had a problem with it. But then there isn't much in it to break down.

Please note the organised fabric in the background. I am still sorting fabric. I am dealing with the big plastic container under the spare bed which has all the old stuff in it - fabric that I bought when I was just starting to quilt and didn't know any better! Boy am I finding some stuff in there. Some of makes me say to the dog "what was I thinking??" I have started a crochet fabric rug, so some of it might go in there. Better go to bed as I have been at work all night.

  1. Several of my friends have the Janome Gem or Gold for their class machine. They are quite popular for that, and a few friends have the bigger ones. I think you can find a reasonably priced machine with those features. Elna has a nice blanket stitch, too, for not as much money.

  2. Needle up/down is a very nice feature. My first machine did not have it, but I learned how to slow down just so to make the needle stop in the down position.
