Quilt Group Experience

I went to the quilt group meeting on Friday - nice ladies, but I wish I could find some quilters around my own age. Well not even my age, just middle aged. Most of the ladies that go to quilt groups are 'older' it seems. A very few groups have 'younger' women, but all they seem to want to talk about is their young children. Most of the older ladies seem to only want to talk about their health. I don't think there is any risk of the quilt ladies from Friday reading this - if I turned the conversation back to sewing once (as a safe topic that didn't involve talking about what I have to deal with at work), I changed the topic 10 times!
Oh well. I will go again next month and give them another go. Lucky I took the hexagons, as they were hand sewing too. Not really a place to take the machine. Sigh...
Otherwise I have been working this weekend, so not much to report. I did make this little bag to take my hand-sewing in though. I couldn't sleep so I thought the process through while in bed, then got up and made it before I went to work on Friday night. It's very bright, but I like it!

I had trouble finding a quilt group which had ladies my age. I now belong to two craft groups and at each one there are ladies around my age as well as older ones. And the main craft most of them do is quilting. Is there any craft groups you could check into?
ReplyDeleteOh how big is that? I'll have to take a picture of what I am using also its very similar. ((hugs)) on the age thing :) xoxo melzie
ReplyDeleteCute, cute bag, Jenni!
ReplyDeleteTry being middle aged with young children - I don't fit in anywhere. (Yes I am 50 next birthday and I have a four year old) You can always come over and visit me some time - if you can take the crazyness. I can't recommend a quilt group over your way because I don't know any - I just get together with two friends every second Tuesday. The age and life situation is probably why we ended up finding people on the internet - and that is a wonderful way to open up horizons.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute quilt bag. Sweetie, you come sit right next to me. I'm older, but I won't talk about either my health or my grandchildren, I promise! We'll talk about quilting! I'll show you my hexagons and you can show me yours. We'll compare settings. =)
ReplyDeleteJenni, I feel just the same way. I think that's one thing that has led me to the quilt blogging. Don't get me wrong, I love the older ladies - I'm always looking for adoptive grandmothers (although they seems to be getting closer in age to my mom) far from home, but it's nice to be part of a multi-generational group b/c then the common topic really is the quilting! Good for you for changing the topic. Again. And again. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the bag and the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you - with the group, sometimes it is hard to find just the right group. But it is nice to get out -- and not talk about work.
The discussing of health and medical matters...! I call that "the organ recital". I have told me kids to shoot me if I ever start doing that.
ReplyDeleteIf your group is anything liek the newsgroups, the topics will be hot, then they will die out, and some other topic will be hot. Eventually the old topics will recycle themselves. Hopefully there is enough quilting talk to make up for talking about the weather and health concerns, etc.
ReplyDeleteYour bag is so pretty. I'm going to have to think about making one of those.
