I've Turned a Corner
Too corny for words, I know, but...
I haven't been doing too much quilting so I'm excited when 'something' happens. I'm still plodding along with the hexagons, but I have to admit I'm not as keen as I was. But I can't stop, or start a new hand sewing project til I'm finished.
I've had a cold, so have been laying low, but I have been reading other people's blogs - there are so many to look at now that it is a real effort to keep up with them all. I know I keep saying it, but I think some small quilts are next on the agenda. I'm a bit fed up with myself starting all these great big ones, then struggling to finish.
I'm inspired by all the lovely quilts on Karen's blog Sewprimitive, and want to try something similar. I also love the customer's quilt Patti has on Quilting is My Passion. I'd like to try some applique too, but that is hand sewing which totally goes against my promise above . I also saw a little string quilt on someone's blog (can't remember who - Dawn's Quilts and Pieces), which would be a perfect way to use up the scraps from the hexagon quilt. So much to do, so little gets done...
But boring things beckon - I'm going to hang out the washing, iron my uniform for work, have some lunch, then go to bed in preparation for work tonight. What a drag, huh?
Adit: in response to questions - I have 'heaps' of projects on the go, but I'm afraid with the hand sewing project, because it is so time consuming, that if I stop I'll never start again. I'm trying to have some discipline (dirty word for me) and keep going with it til the bitter end. I have about 5 other quilts in various stages, not to mention the flimsies that need quilting!

The hexagons look great. Have I discovered a fellow quilter in the quilting world who only works on one project at a time, or have I misunderstood?
ReplyDeleteI love your hexagons! If you're not enjoying it then put it aside for a bit and come back to it when you feel better about it.
ReplyDeleteSoooo glad you're back with us. THe hexagons are lovely, but there is a lot of work before you actually 'get' something. You are right -- sometimes you have to put something aside if it's holding you back - and maybe that's as far as you 'need to go' with it - that's why we have UFOs! Try working on something quick and easy for a while, and I bet you will get back your enthusiasm.
ReplyDeleteI like to have three projects on the go. A hand sewing one, a machine quilting one and a piecing or creative one. I can only hand sew and machine quilt for a limited time so I need the other for the rest of the time. Some projects have to sit awaiting decisions too.
ReplyDeleteI just love seeing your hexagons - they look great. Seems like I always see something to inspire a new 'wannado' - particularly those little quilts all around the blogs. Sometimes you need to put your project aside and work on a fresh idea. . . more inspiration in the end to go back and finish.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you not start another project if you are bored with this one. I always have several things going on. If I am in the mood for applique, I have one project (read several) there, or if I want to do stitchery I have some there too. I always have a tiny project besides my big one...in case I get bored. So please start another project before you get tooooo bored with your hexagons. Which BTW have very beautiful colours.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'll admire you if you can finish the boring job, but I have a history of putting things to one side and they stew for years in the cupboard. Sometimes this improves them, sometimes the thought of going back to them is nauseating. So I say, stick with the hexagons if you can, or make yourself work on them for half an hour each day and then do something you enjoy.
ReplyDeleteAwww, sorry about the cold and the foot and the cricket match. Those hexagons look amazing. Keep it up! I understand about not wanting to do big projects - when I make the small ones, I keep thinking I should do big ones - then I remember that most of my big ones are UFOs!
ReplyDeleteLooking at other blogs does tempt me greatly to start yet something else.
I just LOVE your hexagons, but if you feel a little "bored", I quite agree with May Britt's comment : that's how I "organize" my quilting, too.... And, believe me, I'm the champion of good excuses to start a new project ! LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteOne good tip too, is to consider your hex's as a "leader and ender" project, or as a one hour/day one (e.g. 10 hex's a day....).
Hugs & smiles !
NADINE.
