Double Pink

When I think of a double pink I think of something like the fabric on the left in this photo. It is fairly bright, but still pink. I wouldn't even mind something like the fabric on the right for the setting squares of my 4 patch, but I can't seem to see anything I like that I can afford. I think the pinks must be very popular and rarely make it to the sales.

Is the one on the left what would be called a double pink? I suppose too that the old quilts we see in books (like the one that inspired me to start the 4 patch) are faded, and we get a feeling for the paler look, even though the quilt probably didn't start out that way.

Anyway, it isn't going anywhere - I'll just keep looking and one day I'll see something.

  1. Don't know the true defination of double pink, but I do like the fabric on the right, has that old world charm.

Good point about those colours in old quilts have probably faded with time.

Still I like the look of those old ones.

Have we seen a picture of your four pacth in the past?

  2. oops just found the four patch picture in your side bar!

The fabric on the right is more in keeping with the blocks you have made!

    IMHO of course! Lol

  3. Hey, Jenni, have you ever browsed the Vintage & Vogue site? I was there a minute ago and saw some pretty old-style pinks: http://www.vintageandvogue.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi?cart_id=&product=Baum-NCP3

They ship overseas, too. I've used them before (in the States) and really liked their fabrics and their service. Tons of fabrics on their site!

  4. The one on the left is defined as a double pink, but I find the ones I've collected, while very nice, are usually too dark and intense when you lay them out. I do prefer the faded look, it's much softer.

  5. I like both the pinks. I thought the green strip was a border fabric until I looked closely. I thought it was a surprising choice but that it looked wonderful!

  6. The pink on the left looks like a good choice. I have been getting the civil war fabrics for my DJ and the pinks are definitely more greyish or muted that the bright 30's pinks. Look on the internet under the civil war fabrics and see what is there.

  7. The pink fabric on the right looks "old". Your quilt will be stunning.

  8. Yes, the one on the left is much more like a double pink. Here is a good one for a good price:

If the link doesn't work go to www.thousandsofbolts.com, click on "pinks and purples" and go to the 14th page. Second row on the right.

  9. I love the fabric on the right too. It's old world looking. I think the definition of double pink is that the fabric is pink, and then has a darker pink print on it.
I know of a great quilt shop in the US that has good prices, and I have shopped there before:

There are some really cute double pinks in the Baum section in the collection called 'A little bird told me'. Maybe a couple of yards won't break the budget?

  10. Any pink is good in my book - for a vintage type look I'd have to go with the one on the right. Both pretty!

  11. I am so glad to see I am not alone in finding those wonderful quilts to recreate. Take a look at thousandsofbolts.com from time to time till you find the right fabric. Their price is definitely right.
