It's Finished!
Well, the flimsy's finished. I have just looked back through my blog entries to find that I started this quilt on September 19 2006. Amazing!
This is not a photo of the finished quilt, but one from a few weeks ago. It's 2am, so not much point trying to get a photo, but I'll take one tomorrow. Tonight I've started taking some of the papers out, which will be a big job in itself.
As for the quilting... I'm not sure what to do yet. But it's done. Now I can go to bed. It is the only quilt I've ever made by hand - I'd like to start another one, but perhaps I should learn to do hand quilting instead.

It's beautiful, Jenni. That's a LOT of work!
ReplyDeleteWell done for perservering with it and getting this far.
ReplyDeleteHow are the dogs?
Oh well done Jenni ! Maybe another 2 years quilting and you can call it finished - lol ! I love hand quilting but it is sloooww. I have just started another paper-pieced hexagon quilt. My other one is simmering.
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations! Lovely! I love hexagons, but I've never tried hand piecing them!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Curious to know how you apply binding.
ReplyDeleteFabulous! I just can't get enough of hexagons *s*
ReplyDeleteA friend loaned me a book last week, published in 1949. It says that hexagons should be quilted in the ditch - no stitches showing in the blocks. Just an idea to throw on the table.
It's turned out so dear! Now YOU need to give the rest of us a lesson in "Keeping Motivated" ... I don't think I could keep at it for that length of time. Congrats on a near finish AND sticktuitniveness. 8-)
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous - well done.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! It's beautiful. Hand quilting is lots of fun... just saying :)
ReplyDeleteWell done, and a lesson to me, to not start something that I might never finish!
ReplyDeleteJenni, it's wonderful...quite amazing, really. I love it! Congratulations on the first part of the finish. Happy quilting. Hugs, Finn
ReplyDeleteG,Day Jenny, Nice to see the finished work. Margaret
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That is beautiful! By the way, I have a surprise for you on my blog a http://handquilting.blogspot.com. Check it out.

That is a great quilt top. I don't think it needs lots of quilting. Just tacking at each corner. How big are the hexagons?
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful finish! Great job. Love your darker colors forming the border.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your hexagon quilt - looks lovely! There's nothing to handquilting - just persevere - practice, practice practice!! Must return to mine - goofing off today instead of finishing it.
ReplyDeleteJanet
it is beautiful!
ReplyDeletewhat an accomplishment
Congrats on the finish. Doesn't it feel great.
ReplyDeleteWooHoo - it looks fantastic! I hope you decide to hand quilt it . . . yeah, it will take a while. But it will be so worth it when you are done. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it rewarding dowing a hexagon quilt but then isn't it frustrating when it comes time to quilting it and finishing it off. I have the same problem and one of the options i am considering is to place a boarder around the edge of the quilt and to stitch the hexagons onto that so that i then have a regular shape quilt to bind. There are a few options but none of them grab me yet so my grandmothers garden is sitting in the WIP pile at present.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely stunning Jenny, you should be very proud! Tracey
ReplyDeleteA hexagon quilt wow. I have some grandmothers garden blocks a friend gave me. I really need to do something with. Thanks for some inspiration.

ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous quilt. I'm drawn to hexagons for some reason and yours is very nicely done.
ReplyDeleteI am doing one of these hand stitched hexagon quilts myself. I actually posted my progress on my blog this evening. I have a long way to go to what I want to see in the end but I am in no hurry :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job completing the top! It looks GREAT!

Finished is a good thing! Wow, I'm impressed, so many hexes and all by hand. I keep looking at these and then change my mind. My UFO boxes are growing. A quilt teacher once told us to put our UFO projects in those pretty boxes made for anything from pictures to hats, all sizes and shapes. Then set them on shelves and don't feel guilty, they still look pretty and if you mark the end of the box it will tell you what is in it and with me, I'm more likely to finish something if it's not hidden.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog.
What a beautiful quilt. I love seeing finished projects that mean so much to the quilter.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Hexagons are on my list for the New Year.
