It's Finished!

Well, the flimsy's finished. I have just looked back through my blog entries to find that I started this quilt on September 19 2006. Amazing!

This is not a photo of the finished quilt, but one from a few weeks ago. It's 2am, so not much point trying to get a photo, but I'll take one tomorrow. Tonight I've started taking some of the papers out, which will be a big job in itself.

As for the quilting... I'm not sure what to do yet. But it's done. Now I can go to bed. It is the only quilt I've ever made by hand - I'd like to start another one, but perhaps I should learn to do hand quilting instead.

  6. Fabulous! I just can't get enough of hexagons *s*
A friend loaned me a book last week, published in 1949. It says that hexagons should be quilted in the ditch - no stitches showing in the blocks. Just an idea to throw on the table.

  7. It's turned out so dear! Now YOU need to give the rest of us a lesson in "Keeping Motivated" ... I don't think I could keep at it for that length of time. Congrats on a near finish AND sticktuitniveness. 8-)

  16. That is a great quilt top. I don't think it needs lots of quilting. Just tacking at each corner. How big are the hexagons?

  18. Congratulations on your hexagon quilt - looks lovely! There's nothing to handquilting - just persevere - practice, practice practice!! Must return to mine - goofing off today instead of finishing it.

  21. WooHoo - it looks fantastic! I hope you decide to hand quilt it . . . yeah, it will take a while. But it will be so worth it when you are done. Great job!

  22. Isn't it rewarding dowing a hexagon quilt but then isn't it frustrating when it comes time to quilting it and finishing it off. I have the same problem and one of the options i am considering is to place a boarder around the edge of the quilt and to stitch the hexagons onto that so that i then have a regular shape quilt to bind. There are a few options but none of them grab me yet so my grandmothers garden is sitting in the WIP pile at present.

  28. I am doing one of these hand stitched hexagon quilts myself. I actually posted my progress on my blog this evening. I have a long way to go to what I want to see in the end but I am in no hurry :)

Great job completing the top! It looks GREAT!

  29. Finished is a good thing! Wow, I'm impressed, so many hexes and all by hand. I keep looking at these and then change my mind. My UFO boxes are growing. A quilt teacher once told us to put our UFO projects in those pretty boxes made for anything from pictures to hats, all sizes and shapes. Then set them on shelves and don't feel guilty, they still look pretty and if you mark the end of the box it will tell you what is in it and with me, I'm more likely to finish something if it's not hidden.
    I love your blog.
