Totally Lost the Plot
I have to tell you that I have totally lost the plot. I am so SICK of computers, and sewing machines, and cameras and gas bottles and everything else that has decided not to work today!
I am in a bit of a panic as the desktop computer will not start. Whenever Microsoft makes you install updates by scaring you into thinking that if you don't, the whole thing will crash, my computer has a great difficulty restarting (not much different to crashing really). The Blue Screen of Death is visible with some writing on it for about half a nanosecond, then comes the apology - We apologise for the inconvenience but Windows won't start, probably because of the software YOU just installed (yes it's my fault), even though they made me do it.
I went out for about 4 hours last night and left it trying to restart itself every 29 seconds - I came home and it was still trying. It has tried for another few hours today with no result, so now I'm stuffed. Fortunately there is the Laptop, but it is only set up in a Network with the Desktop, so although it will connect to the internet via the router, I can't view any of the stuff on the big computer because it won't turn on.
I just spent 30 mins trying to get the Drivers etc for the camera, then downloading Picasa and going through all that again... whinge whinge whinge. And the dreaded download that stuffed everything up has changed the whole look of my browser and I can't find any of the buttons. So off to the computer shop maybe - at least I can get the CD drive drawer fixed!
I had a friend over for lunch - the gas bottle on the BBQ ran out half way through cooking. The sewing machine keeps chewing the start of all the seams, so frankly I have decided not to do anymore of anything tonight, and go to bed. The big worry is that I really need to do some washing - I don't think I could bear it if the washing mahine blew up, as trust me, there is no Laundromat on Lamb Island!
So, enough of all that. Here is my latest Civil War block. I think I have done 7 or 8 now. Hope you are all having a better day!

I hate that sort of day! Hope tomorrow is better. Love the block!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's time to unplug it all...and take a day just for you.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Oh boy - not a good day. I can't help with your tedious day except maybe with ONE! The part about chewing the leading edge of your fabric. Nor sure if this is the case but ... many of our new machines have a wide hole on the throat plate, to accommodate the many widths of the gazillion stitches we won't use. I had that problem and finally bought a separate throat plate with a LITTLE hole! It's a bit fiddly to change it back and forth, but 95% of my sewing is just straight stitch anyway. That solved MY problem. Hope it may help you.
ReplyDeleteHave a glass of wine later today.
Yikes..... I know the kind of day you are describing. You're just afraid to touch anything else. I'm convinced we are given days like this to give us perspective. My solution: Curl up with a yummy drink and a good book....or a little yoga and meditation..... or both. ;c)
ReplyDeleteI used to have similar problems with computers till I switched to my iBook. I know Apple products are not the perfect solution because I can't run and access everything I want to but I don't get weird error messages anymore.
Love the way your civil war blocks are turning out. It will be fun to watch your progress!
Cheers to a better day tomorrow!
Oh, boy, do I feel your pain! We've been having similar problems, and when you add to it the fact that we're trying to make our computers connect and run properly on both sides of the pond, you just compound the difficulties. When you call tech support at your ISP, they fingerpoint at the "other guys", or tell you to call Microsoft (which costs $80!). Grrrrr!
ReplyDeleteHope tomorrow is a better day. Time to relax and read a good book or go see a movie.
Love the Civil War blocks, though!
Oh no! When it rains - it pours!
ReplyDeleteAre you ever moving along on the Civil war blocks. They look great.
Hopefully today is a better day and the computer issues are easily fixed. I hate when there is a computer problem. But luckily for me it is alway my husband that causes them - so he has to fix it!
Oh my...I feel your frustation with the computer. Leave it for a day and maybe things will not seem as bad. I hope you can get things worked out.
ReplyDeleteThe block is wonderful.
My IT guy told me not to update to IE 7 because it doesn't work well with the virus software I have. Thank goodness I manually update. I hate these kinds of horror stories. I used to have a PC when I worked at a high-tech corp that would blue screen all the time. To get it to start: I made sure all peripherals (printer, scanner, and monitor) were turned off. Then I literally unplugged the machine. It's not a nice way to shut down, but it was the only way to get it fired up. I waited about 5 minutes till all the whirring and grinding had stopped, plugged it back in, turned on the peripherals and fired the tower back up. That usually did the trick until I had to shut it down again. I tried not to shut down. The IT guys there were no help whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteThese are the days you just go cuddle up with a favorite quilt, a hot beverage and a good book. Hopefully things will look up tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYour block is outstanding, I like the colors and fabric.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a better day on Friday. If we lived closer I would be your computer tech and work on it for you.
What a day! I love your Civil War Block. The colors are ME. Computers can be a pleasure and help, or make you want to tear your hair out.
ReplyDeleteLove the new block.
ReplyDeleteI think some days machines just gang up on us. Hopefully tomorrow will be better :)
At least your civil war blocks are turning out wonderfully. I'm so sorry so many other things in your world are out of whack right now! Here's hoping tomorrow is a much better day.
ReplyDeleteWow, quite the day! I think it all means that you need a massage or some form of relaxation. Order take out, open a bottle of wine or whatever and just let it go! How frustrating! Well, hang in there, tomorrow is a new day! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeletePS, the block looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you a better day!
ReplyDeleteDear Jenni, I very much like your CW blocks! I'm waiting for the book, have ordered from Amazon, and I'm collecting repro fabrics. I want to make this quilt too. Do you join the CW Yahoo group?
