1st Sock Finished
Here you see my finished 1st sock. It is too big really, and the heel drops down lower than I think it should. Maybe this is because I have made it too long, or the needles are too big. Whatever - I now know that I can do it, so hopefully the 2nd one will be a bit tighter too, as I have a better grasp on the pointy needles
. It looks a bit funny at the toe in the photo on the left, but is ok when on. I had 8 stitches on each of 2 needles at the end, and I did the 3 needle cast off. The stripes are groovy, so I will wear them with my slippers or something.
The weather has finally turned a bit cool which is such a relief. It is about 17 deg C - 27 deg C, which is very pleasant. I slept under the doona last night for the first time, and today I have dug some holes for trees without expiring from the heat. I would be very happy if the weather was like this all the time. It is quite windy though, and all the people on boats on the Bay for Easter probably had a miserable time.
I have been working on my hexagons a bit, the 4 patches and bits and pieces. The 2nd sock is next.

Congratulations on finishing the 1st sock. It might be a bit of a big fit - but it looks perfect for wandering around the house at night.
ReplyDeleteIs it coming up to your winter now? Our weather is finally getting a bit better as well -- less rain!
Congratulations on your first sock! I promise they'll get easier as you go along. I love the colour, blue is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful Easter.
*hugs*

:-)
Congratulations on the first sock!! Tazzie is right - they do get easier and faster as you go along.
ReplyDeleteI've found that knitting them on smaller needles helps them to last better and longer.
Congratulations on the 1st sock. I'll agree with Ruth about the smaller needles. If the heels curves under the foot too much, you might try making the sole/foot section longer. My formula: CO 60st divide on 4 needles. Knit for 70rows, do the heel flap and turn the heel, and when I pick up the st for the gusset I start counting rows again and then I do 60 rows (for my size American 7.5 foot) and then do the toe. HTH.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first sock. Love the blue varigated yarn. I'm finished my 3rd pair and really loving it.
ReplyDeleteI am just now beginning to learn to knit. I look at your sock and see something I can only hope to be able to make...it looks wonderful to me. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, you may not think it's perfect Jenni, but I am suitably impressed that you even tackled knitting a sock in the first place - and it fits! Mostly :)
ReplyDeleteJenni...YOU DID IT!
ReplyDeleteI just love this yarn, and you did a really good job. It will get easier, I promise. I didn't even make #2 of my first pair, it was made with the wrong yarn and skads too big. I'll take it out one of these days and use it for something else.
I'm guessing that you do need to switch to smaller needles, they will be a relief to your hands actually. Also, you may have a few too many rows in your heel flap.
I do the kitchner toe, I hate doing it....but love the outcome. My dh has to read it to me each time, I'm so dense. I have sock #2 of my pink pair done, just waiting for dh to "read to me", lol.
Again, GREAT JOB!
I am consistently amazed at the knitted sock! Far too complicated for me *s* Looks great.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 1st sock. It looks great to me. Big might be more comfortable around the house.
ReplyDeleteGreat sock and what is a doona?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sock..I just love knitting them!! I love the yarn you used. They do get easier as you keep making them. Socks and dishcloths are about all I ever get around to knitting these days..small and portable.
ReplyDeleteAnyway....great job!!
